At Lighthouse Microschool, play is not a break from learning---it is learning.

Albert Einstein said, "“Play is the highest form of research.”

Play is essential and is encouraged both inside and outside the school rooms. Outside play is an exciting way to connect with nature, build confidence, and help build healthy, happy kids.

Here are five ways play benefits learners of all ages.

1. Play fosters effective communication.

2. Play helps develop social skills.

3. Play helps in the development of cognitive, critical thinking, & motor skills.

4. Play creates confidence.

5. Play inspires creativity and creative problem solving.

Games have long been a great way to learn and practice new skills. Many times learners will use play as a base to help each other solve complex problems and work on real world skills.

This is going to be great to see as our learners get to know each other.

Now more than ever, kids need to be outside and enjoying nature. Nature study is an important part of our school life and we plan to spend plenty of time outside running, playing games, caring for plants, and enjoying the sunshine---and the rain too! Yes-we plan to explore outside during rain too. Each child can bring rain gear to keep at school and we will also have a change of clothing for each child. Of course, we will stay safely inside if there is lightning or other dangers.
